🖐 Steam version worth it over GOG? :: Transport Fever 2 総合掲示板

We started working on R2G series before Steam Greenlight even existed so I actually implemented our own "steam" along with keys, auto updater, digital distribution and saves in the cloud. As you noticed after big updates we roll out many small bugfix updates, sometimes even twice a day. I like zais' the boutique analogy. Why devs pick Steam over GOG? On GOG every update must pass GOG's QA. On GOG it would take ages so if there was a bug included in the update players would be stuck with it. Anyway, cracking Steam games is easy enough, the DRM here is more "pro forma". This is a stressful prospect for many devs.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} Meaning pass it around for free instead of having to pay for it? My guess is that Valve decided to make crackers' lives as difficult as possible without making players' lives difficult. With GOG there is no need for cracking games as they have no DRM. The developer has to decide whenever he will get his game shown to players or tens of millions of players. Maybe that's one reason game developers like using steam? Don't really use anything other than steam. You can just copy directory and it works. We could always consider reviving that code and moving all our Steam players there. c last but not least: on Steam developers manage updates and are responsible for QA. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}Let's hope steam doesn't go anywhere. If Steam went away it wouldn't happen overnight and we as me and the rest of the company would figure something out. a it's easier to be on Steam, there is no curation whereas on GOG someone on their end has to actually like your game b and that one is the most important - Steam userbase is HUGE compared to GOG. I have a couple games on GOG, but pretty much everything is here. I think Witcher 3 had DRM on GOG, at least you had to enter the key.
